Actonians Girls is proud to announce the partnership with WUKA, the UK’s leading reusable period underwear brand, as part of WUKA’s nationwide Tackle Anything campaign. This collaboration aims to break down barriers and empower girls to stay active and confident in sport—no matter what time of the month it is.
WUKA’s campaign is built around a striking reality: 1 in 2 girls drop out of sport after primary school, and 71% avoid physical activity during their periods. At Actonians, these are not just statistics—they reflect challenges seen first-hand. As a club committed to supporting players through every stage of their development, this partnership with WUKA aligns with Actonians’ mission to foster a positive, inclusive, and stigma-free sporting environment.
Every player at Actonians Girls will receive a free pair of WUKA’s award-winning period pants, designed specifically with active lifestyles in mind. These products offer comfort, confidence, and practical support - enabling girls to focus on enjoying their game, without worrying about leaks or discomfort.
Ruby Raut (CEO & Co-Founder of WUKA)
“When I used to play sports, quite a lot of the time the menstrual product used to fall off and cause huge embarrassment, and it stopped girls from going to school and playing sports at all—and that still happens, even in the UK, when the menstrual product gets seen—like the tampon string is hanging or someone notices a bulky pad. There is still a huge stigma that menstrual products should be hidden and not seen—and we want to change this. We want people to feel comfortable playing sports. We are proud to support the girls at Actonians FC.”
The initial conversation between Actonians and WUKA began earlier this year when the club was approached about joining the Tackle Anything campaign. For the Actonians team, the decision was simple. The shared goals of empowering girls and removing barriers to participation made the collaboration a natural fit.
Rosie Griffiths (Secretary, Actonians Girls) explains:
“At Actonians Girls, we believe nothing should hold our players back—on or off the pitch. That’s why we’re proud to be partnering with WUKA. Thanks to their generous donation of a pair of award-winning period pants to every girl at the club, we’re able to support our players with both access to essential products and open, empowering conversations around menstrual health. Together, we’re creating a stigma-free environment where girls feel comfortable and confident to play their best - every week of the month.”
Although the partnership is still in its early stages, the club has already seen signs of impact. During the distribution of the products, player responses varied—highlighting just how differently girls experience and talk about their periods. One senior player has taken on a leadership role, speaking on behalf of Actonians for WUKA marketing campaign and speaking candidly with younger teammates, helping to normalise conversations and build a culture of openness.
The collaboration also recognises the importance of products specifically designed for athletes. Staying active during a period can significantly benefit both mental and physical health - but only if girls feel comfortable and secure. WUKA’s period pants offer that peace of mind, enabling girls to attend training, school, or matches without fear or anxiety.
For many younger players, managing their period is a new and often daunting experience. WUKA’s products help simplify that process. Easy to use and reliable, they remove the uncertainty that can discourage girls from participating in sport. This partnership empowers players with the confidence to show up, play their best, and see their periods as a normal and manageable part of life.
As a visible symbol of this partnership, the WUKA logo will appear on the matchday shorts worn by Actonians Girls players next season. The design not only looks smart, but also proudly reflects the club’s commitment to breaking taboos and supporting players on and off the pitch. Some of the girls have already been spotted showing off the new look - wearing it with pride and sending a strong message that periods should never be hidden, or a reason to stop playing the sport they love.
In addition to supplying a pair of pants to all of our youth players, WUKA are giving the club 15% commission on all purchased made via this link:
As Actonians and WUKA continue to work together, the hope is that more girls will feel empowered to stay active, embrace their periods without shame, and know they have a supportive team behind them - every step of the way.
