Actonians WFC enjoyed a fantastic day both on and off the pitch this weekend, as players from across the club came together to take part in the West London Queer Project Festival of Football.
Representing a true club-wide effort, a collective of players from the Recs, Vets, 3rds and Reserves squads joined forces to enter two teams into the tournament. The event provided a brilliant opportunity to showcase not only footballing ability, but also the club’s strong sense of community and commitment to inclusivity.
The festival atmosphere was in full swing throughout the day, with rainbow socks, face paint, glitter and stickers proudly worn by players, fully embracing the spirit of the occasion. The event celebrated diversity and togetherness, highlighting the power of football to bring people from all backgrounds together.

While the focus of the day was firmly on community and inclusion, Actonians’ competitive edge was never far away. Both teams delivered outstanding performances across the tournament.
The Open team produced a superb run to bring home the Plate trophy — an especially impressive achievement as the only women’s team competing in a predominantly male field. Meanwhile, the Women’s team enjoyed a remarkable tournament of their own, progressing all the way to the final before finishing as overall runners-up following a closely contested penalty shootout.
Actonians WFC Community Officer Shadia Edwards-Dashti reflected on the importance of the day:
"The WLQP footy festival is a highlight of the year and our season! It’s such a fun day doing what we do best, celebrating who we are, with pride. The day was a demonstration of our love of the game and each other! At Actonians LFC, inclusion isn’t just a message, it’s our culture. We tackle homophobia and transphobia head on to make football a space where everyone can play and support each other. We are a family and that includes everyone! So proud of everyone and great to come away with a medal!"

A special mention goes to 3rds coach Jamie, the self-proclaimed “Actonians Messi", who pulled on the blue and white shirt and fully embraced the experience, becoming one of the girls for the day.

The festival was a true reflection of what Actonians stands for: football, inclusivity, and community spirit.
The club would like to extend a big thank you to Aubry and the West London Queer Project team for organising another fantastic event. Actonians look forward to returning again next year.
