Welcome to the club, how are you enjoying it so far?
I’m enjoying it a lot! It’s my first season in senior women’s football so I was nervous to get going, but the support from the team and coaches has made it easier for me to settle my nerves. The league we play in is challenging and competitive which is the perfect test for me. The atmosphere within the team is truly special, everyone encourages and praises each other; that alone makes football far more enjoyable.
You’ve just turned 16, how have you found the step up to senior football both on and off the pitch?
The step up has been a good learning curve for me. I made my debut at 15 for Actonians and got fouled quite badly in the first 5 minutes. I realised then that the league was going to challenge me physically and mentally as I was going to be playing against women twice my size and age. I have been working off the pitch to try and build more muscle so I can improve on my physicality.
You are dual signed with Spurs and train almost everyday, how do you find balancing that with playing for us on a Sunday as well as school and everything else?
I have been lucky with the balancing act so far. I recently finished my GCSEs and have had a long holiday so I haven’t really had to think about school for the last couple of months. However, school starts now, so it’s definitely going to be tough managing such a busy workload. Hopefully I will get used to it! Football has always been everything to me and I know it will be the guiding force through the start of the term.
What do you feel your role will be in the team this season and what do you hope to bring to the squad?
I feel my role in the team is to create and score goals. I am an attacking player, so I will almost always look to go forward to either beat players, pass and run beyond or shoot. I hope to bring energy, creativity and a hard working attitude to the team.
Do you have any role models in women’s football? Definitely, I look up to a lot of professional women’s footballers. My main role model in women’s football is Maren Mjelde, who plays for Chelsea FC. She has had some major setbacks, for example a knee injury last year. But she always seems very hardworking and will do anything to come back stronger for the team.
What are you personal hopes and goals for the season? My personal goal is to score at least 10 goals and 10 assists for the season. My aim for the season is to help the team finish as high up the league as possible, hopefully even promotion. I would also like to be getting regular game time for Spurs WSLA.
How do you prepare for match day?
I’m quite particular about my routine. I need 8+ hours of sleep. When I wake up I relax for a bit until I have porridge and a glass of water. Then I’ll get dressed and pack my bag for the match and drive. I usually listen to music in the car to get hype, other times I’ll talk to my dad about last weeks match and how I can improve for the upcoming match.
Do you have any pre-match rituals or superstitions?
I am superstitious. I have lucky shin pads, lucky boots, a lucky headband. My lucky shin pads are mismatched and I have to wear the opposite colour shin pad sleeve to the shin pad. My lucky number is also 8 which is my shirt number! A good warm up is also really essential to me before a game. It gets me in the right mindset for the game.
Big thanks to Greta for taking the time to answer our questions.
