The A's bucked their losing trend in an impressive 2-1 win over London Bees at Berkeley Fields, courtesy of goals from a debuting Georgia Griffin and late penalty from Kayra Karakus.
LINEUP: Stevens, Clement, Brereton (c), Walpole, Griffin, Colley, Karakus, Fronc, Williamson, Kargbo, West.
The A's started the game as the stronger of the two teams, with debutants Griffin, Fronc and West all making their presence known early on. The first two in particular over the first ten minutes, as they saw a lot of the ball in central areas and posed an immense amount of threat in doing so.
The early pressure was rewarded with an excellent goal from Griffin, who picked the ball up on the left side of the box from Fronc before firing an effort over Bees shot-stopper Tia Ginn and into the top right corner to give Actonians the lead 11 minutes in.
This continued after the goal, although the visitors did well to hold out underneath it, and were able to nab an equaliser in the 25th minute from a corner.
Griffin and Fronc remained at the centre of the A's pressure going forward, with the former nodding an effort just over from Williamson's cross seconds after the equaliser and the latter drawing the first yellow card of the game for a shirt pull, with that being given to Jaime Gotch.
A flurry of chances near the end of the half was not enough to beat Ginn, with Bella Stevens making a great save to deny winger Sandy Martins at the other end as well.
Grace Gillard replaced Jasmine Williamson at the break to mark the fourth debutant of the game for Actonians.
Hayley West almost restored our lead soon after the restart, taking a cross-field ball in stride before cutting onto her right foot and swinging an effort towards goal, but it clipped the top of the crossbar before going out for a goal-kick.
Ginn was also in inspired form, making an impressive triple save to deny Fronc and Kargbo soon after.
The game fell into a bit of a lull over the next 25 minutes - there were still chances, but nothing to majorly trouble either goalkeeper. Vivien Ruettgers and Nour Aboul-Kheir replaced Abigail Kargbo and Emma Walpole in the 73rd minute.
After another strong catch in what was a very assured performance from Bella Stevens, the A's found themselves at the other end of the pitch, and a kind bounce fell to Viv, whose effort cannoned off of the arm of a Bees defender on the goal-line in clear view. The referee blew the whistle and pointed to the spot. The defender was subsequently booked, and Karakus made absolutely no mistake, firing home into the bottom left corner to give the A's an 89th-minute lead.
Roxanne James replaced Georgia Griffin in stoppage time, but no difference was made to the scoreline as the A's picked up an incredibly impressive three points at Berkeley Fields.
