The A's fell to an unfortunate 1-0 defeat away at rivals QPR in Perivale courtesy of an early first-half penalty from Jess Leach. The fixture also marked Jennie Brereton's 100th appearance with the Actonians.
LINEUP: Soltani, Brereton (c), Bramwell, Clement, Colley, Karakus, Chaudhry, Walpole, Kargbo, Williamson, Ruttgers.
The hosts took the lead very early on, as Jess Leach dispatched from the penalty spot six minutes in following an unfortunate foul from captain Jennie Brereton. Fatima Soltani did get hands to the effort, but couldn't keep it out.
The A's came close to an instant response, with Abigail Kargbo capitalising on a fortunate bounce in the attacking third, but her near-post effort was parried behind for a corner that eventually came to nothing.
A corner from Kayra Karakus caused issues just after the quarter-hour mark, flashing across the face of goal but going out for a goal-kick.
An uneventful twenty minutes followed, with neither team keeping much possession. An injury to Kayra forced a break in play.
QPR had the next chance, as an unmarked Annie Dzyadyk fired over from inside the box following a cross.
Some brilliant defending from Lois Colley kept the margin to one in stoppage time, as a corner from the hosts was met at the back post but denied by a goal-line clearance from the Actonians defender.
The second half began in a similarly uneventful manner, with Kayra's effort in the 63rd minute being the first real effort from either team. Mara Bramwell picked up the first booking of the game two minutes later for a late challenge.
Some more excellent defending from Lois and Fatima kept the score at 1-0, as the number two put her body on the line to deny a dangerous-looking chance from the edge of the box, and the goalkeeper pulled off a great save to deny the follow-up after a fortunate bounce.
Gabrielle Bishop replaced Emma Walpole in the first Actonians substitution of the game 80 minutes in.
Lois was yet again on hand to deny the hosts a second goal minutes later, as a free-kick fell kindly for the Hoops, leaving Fatima scrambling. Unable to get hold of the ball, it bobbled across the box, but was subsequently cleared off of the line for a second time by Colley.
The remaining three substitutions were made, with Roxanne James, Annabelle Fawcett and Gabby Bishop entering the fray. Jennie Brereton, Emma Walpole and Azwa Chaudry left the field.
Unfortunately, a stoppage-time collision left Fatima unable to continue, leaving Lois to stand between the sticks for the remainder of the game.
Neither team truly threatened for the remaining seven minutes, and the A's fell to defeat in Perivale.
