SCENE SETTER
Actonians will travel to Haringey Borough in the 1st round of the Capital Women’s Cup. Kick-off is at 14:45 with the match being played at Coles Park, White Hart Lane, Tottenham, London, N17 7JP.
OPPONENTS
Haringey Borough’s women's team was established in 1999, joining the Eastern Region Women's Football League. They were Division Two runners-up and then Division One runners-up, earning promotion to the Premier Division. Although the team were relegated to Division One South at the end of the 2011–12 season, they were promoted back to the Premier Division at the first attempt.
They were competing again in the Eastern Region Women's Football Premier Division during 2016/17 season where they won the League and the League Cup. As a result, the north London outfit made the step up to the Women's National League South East Division One but were relegated in their first season. They finished 10th out of 12 teams on their return to the Eastern Region Women's Football Premier Division in the 2018/19 season before last season was abandoned due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
FORM
Haringey Borough have picked up 4 points from their first 5 games this season with their win coming against Bedford and draw coming against Bowers and Pitsea. They were narrowly beaten by Fulham in the FA Cup as well as St Ives, Colney Heath and Wroxham in the league.
Actonians kept up their strong start to the season last week with a 6-2 win over Saltdean United in the FA Cup. The win came after Actonians made a great start in the league, picking up three wins and a draw from their first four matches to move up to 2nd in the National League South East Division One.
HARRIGAN’S THOUGHTS
“[On last week’s win] I thought it was a tough game. I was not overly concerned in the first half, I thought it was quite an even game. The first half wasn’t our best, but I thought in the second half we really did turn the tie around.”
“The county cup is a cup that the club really want to do well in. We will 100% go into the game not underestimating anyone. We want to win every game we play.”
TEAM NEWS
“We’ll be putting out the strongest side we can. Murphy’s out and there are one or two niggles, so we’ll give a few people the weekend off. That is not as a disrespect to the cup or opposition, but we have quite a small squad. We will pull in a few from the Under 17’s so it will be good experience for them.”
