Goals from D’Santos and Barreca in the first half as well as Ono and Ward in the second half saw Actonians register their sixth victory of the season and set up an away tie against Eastbourne Town or Leyton Orient.
Ono tested the palms of the Worthing ‘keeper early on but it was a tough first 20 minutes for Actonians as the visitors controlled possession. But once Actonians got the first goal, they never looked back and it was D'Santos who got the important breakthrough with a great strike. She whipped a shot back into the far top corner after her corner deflected back out to her.
And the hosts didn’t have to wait long for a second as Buckmire made a great run from right back before unleashing a powerful effort that may have trickled over the line anyway after the ‘keeper got a glove on it; but with defenders lurking, Barrreca bundled the ball in to double Actonians’ advantage.
Harte made a great sliding challenge to deny a Worthing attempt before half time and Golebiowski, in the Actonians net, made several strong catches from crosses in tricky windy conditions as the hosts dug in to see out the remainder of the half.
The scoreline may have seemed a harsh reflection from Worthing’s point of view but it summed up Actonians’ ruthlessness in both boxes to take the chances they had and deny Worthing any clear efforts.
The second half was plain sailing for Actonians though as two goals at the start of the half killed off the tie. Ono calmly slotted past the ‘keeper almost immediately after half time before Ward bagged her first goal of the season with a near post finish.
Once again, Actonians defended well throughout the rest of the half, seeing out the last 35 minutes of the match with comfort. Brereton made several great tackles/blocks as Actonians protected their clean sheet, making it four for the season so far.
Sadly, the match is set to be the last for Actonians until at least the 2nd December.
The Women’s National League announced on Tuesday morning that ‘following UK government’s announcement re new national restrictions between 5 November and 2 December, subject to Parliamentary vote tomorrow, all FA WNL fixtures and training will be suspended during this period.’
We will provide more information about future fixtures as and when we know on @ActoniansLFC Twitter Page.
