Home team rue poor 1st half performance

Actonians third team took on Tower Hamlets in a match they were hoping could give them their first win of the season. The game began and shortly into the game, Tower Hamlets won a succession of corners. Unfortunately in the 6th minute, the tall Tower Hamlets defender rose up highest and powered home a bullet header past Saoirse in goal to make it 1-0, which was not the start Actonians wanted.
The game continued at a frantic pace and Actonians worked hard to try and create and they did have some nice attacking play but ultimately were unable to test the Tower Hamlets goalkeeper.
However Tower Hamlets hit two goals in fairly quick succession in the 23rd and 38th minute, capitalising on individual errors and too much space allowed for some close range finishes. 3-0.
Actonians tried not to let their heads drop and continued to try and build a revival, culminating in a brilliant 20 yard effort from Linda which was fantastically clawed away by the Tower Hamlets goalkeeper.
3-0 halftime however Actonians felt we had every chance to get back in the game.

This proved accurate because immediately into the second half Cat picked up the ball from left back at the half way line and charged her way through several challenges before laying the ball off to Rosie, who just outside the area curled an amazing strike into the to right hand corner of the goal (46 mins). 3-1.
However the celebrations were short lived because only 5 minutes later, after another lapse in concentration, Tower Hamlets were able to score their 4th goal, evading the offside trap and the striker slotting home.

Despite this setback, Actonians were still determined to try and get something from the game and refused to go down without a fight. The build up play improved and again, and Actonians were also putting some nice balls in from wide positions. Actonians managed to find some space to shoot on goal on several occasions, albeit it from long distance which unfortunately did not trouble the goalkeeper. Cat did have an effort which struck the post from a tight angle.
Not to be deterred, on 60th minutes Cat attempted another run from left wing only to be fouled. Kirsty sent a beautiful cross in from the resulting free kick which Keri did marvellously well to swivel her neck and head the ball home for 4-2.

The game became a lot more open with Actonians having no choice but to try and plough forward in order to chase the game but also this meant Tower Hamlets were able to cause problems on the counter attack and in the 85th minute, were able to squeeze home a 5th goal. 5-2.

It was a disappointing result and Actonians know that if they can improve on the basics, they can and will do a lot better in future matches.
