Actonians Third team took on Leyton Orient who were sitting top of the league in what the team knew would be a difficult clash.
The game began and Actonians started very brightly. In what was a physical contest, Actonian's were on top in the first 10 minutes, attacking with intent and trying to carve out a few half chances. Anty came closest with a speculative effort which just cleared the crossbar.
Unfortunately, on 12 minutes, Leyton Orient hit back on the counter and the striker was able to race through on goal and slot the ball past Saoirse in the Actonians goal. 1-0 to Leyton Orient.
Barely a minute later and Cat won a free kick after being taken out on the right wing. From a very tight angle. Anty produced an exquisite free kick that sailed over the keeper’s head into the back of the net. 1-1.
The game was now very open and Leyton Orient managed to sneak back in front on 16 minutes when the Leyton winger bombarded her way through on a dazzling run and hit a great strike from outside the area to make it 2-1.
Actonian's continued to work hard to stop further attacks and make crucial interceptions and blocks however a third for Leyton Orient followed in 42nd minute after a penalty box scramble resulted in the ball being rammed into the net to make it 3-1.
Heads did not drop for Actonians and on the stroke of half time, Linda swept the ball out to Cat on the wing whose low cross was turned home from close range by Shadia. Half time 3-2.
The 2nd half began and it appeared that Leyton Orient were a renewed team. They were attacking a lot more and Actonians were being asked a lot more questions. The team did a commanding job snuffing out any real chances but it was very much backs to the wall.
Despite this, Leyton Orient had to wait until the 64th minute to get their 4th goal. The right winger ran into the penalty box and fell to the turf in what may have been a decent challenge from our Actonians left back. However, the referee awarded a penalty to Leyton Orient and this was well taken by the striker to make it 4-2.
Actonians tried to come back into the game, with Shadia causing the Leyton Orient right back some problems and they nearly scored a 3rd when Naia was adjusted to be offside when scrambling the ball into the net.
In the 80th minute however, a low cross into the Actonian’s penalty area landed at the striker’s feet, and with a deft turn managed to steer the ball home in the six-yard box for 5-2, which was the final result.
The result was slightly flattering on Leyon Orient who must have been expecting an easier game and really had to work for their three points. It was disappointment again for Actonians but the team have a lot to be proud of with their first half display against the top of the table team.
