Actonians vs Fulham Preview
By Tai Kolade
This Sunday, we christen our new ground with the arrival of Fulham at 2pm.
After a difficult start in the league, losing 4-0 to title favourites Norwich, spirits were buoyed with a 1-0 win over Maidenhead in the cup. Two away fixtures to start the season are never easy, but momentum is with the team now after securing their first victory. Sunday will see Actonians welcome Fulham to our new stadium, North Greenford United, and a new local league rivalry begin.
Actonians update
There have been a host of changes at Actonians this year. Firstly, we have become a Women’s Football Club now, dropping the old title of ladies. There are several new players in the team, ready to get stuck in for the season ahead, and we mentioned our home ground has changed to North Greenford United. You can read more about these changes HERE.
Focus on Fulham
Local west Londoners Fulham have been promoted to the FA Women's National League Division One South East for the first time under their new guise. The team have been dissolved and brought back a few times and has been Fulham FC Women since 2018. They come up as champions of the London and South East Women's Regional Football League Premier Division, impressively finishing the season unbeaten with 20 wins and two draws.
They had several players who hit double figures last season, no more so than Fulham’s number 9, Ellie Olds, who bagged 19 goals and 12 assists in s stellar individual season for her. Her partner in crime was Madi Parsonson, who scored 17 goals with 22 assists. Frightening numbers for the Fulham duo.
So far, Fulham have played two games this season and won their first league game against Cambridge, with Olds scoring a 90th-minute winner to snatch the game 2-1 and seal the three points. On Wednesday, they played in the cup against Lewes and were narrowly beaten 2-1 by their Tier 3 opponents.
